Meri blinked and blushed a bit as she felt his hand on her cheek, turning her head slightly to look at him. She smiled alittle as she listened to him talk, comforted alittle by that. "Thanks, Captain.."she said softly, "I can't imagine you being afraid of the sea, but still..I appreciate the comfort."

"It's just what I do," Cain said. "Normally I wouldn't do that, but there's something about you I can't put my finger on..." He smiled and chuckled a bit. "Now then," he said, still smiling. "We can't just stay out here in the night airs in wet clothes. We should really get into something dry, or at least dry off.

"Lucky me." Meri said brightly, not sure what exactly he was talking about. Just 'something about her' was nice enough, though, and she was willing to take his kindness however he'd give it and for whatever reason. She knew he was right about the wet clothes, too, she was already cold and shivery and that was not a good thing. It probably wouldn't bother him but it certainly would affect her. "You're right... We should, um, get some towels or change or something.."she said. Strangely, she was reluctant to leave his side at the moment even to do that, but she would. She needed to be warm.

"Well," Cain said with his hand to his chin. "We could start a fire. I've got a fire pit and some wood in the stow." He smiled a bit and sat down on the steps to the helm. "Just a thought.

Meri nodded enthusiastically, approving of that idea immensely. A fire would be warm and they'd both be dry in no time. "That's a perfect idea!"she said brightly, moving to sit next to him. Much better than the slow process of towel-drying or just changing, which wouldn't have helped her much with her hair dripping everywhere.

"Very well," Cain said. He motioned over to 2 crewmen lazing around who readied the firepit. Cain himself got up and snapped, lighting the wood logs instantaneously. He motioned over for Meri to join him.
(icky short, must go to bed!)

((Alright. Good night! ^.^))
Meri watched as the crewman readied the firepit, and then with awe as Cain started the fire with a mere snap of his finger. She knew the vampires were talented but she'd never seen any of them do anything like that before. Amything powerful. Getting up, she immediately moved to join him near the fire.

Cain put his hands over the fire to warm. It was a pleasant feeling, being with Meri in the night with the fire burning. "This is great," he said. "Not a care in the world..."

Meri smiled as she held her hands over the fire, enjoying the heat against her chilled skin. But most pleasant of all was being in the company of the Captain, enjoying the night air and warmth and complacentness. "Absolutely perfect." she said with a smile.

"So, Meri," Cain said. "What convinced you to join my crew in the first place?" He was genuinely curious, especially her being a human aboard a vampire's ship. It stirred his interest.

Meri shrugged slightly, looking at Cain for a moment before answering. "I felt useless where I was. Like everything I was doing didn't make a difference. The system...health care. It's all warped but everyone lies about it and pretends that people are taken care of. I was frustrated and when I got the chance to leave I took it. I thought maybe I could be useful here."

"I see," Cain said. "It's a sad, sad time when people realize that their actions are for naught." He closed his eyes for a bit and opened them back up and smiled. "However, being a vampire makes me immune to such things. I mean really, sure I might not make a big impact on anybody, but as long as I'm smart, I will live forever!"

Meri nodded slightly in response to his first comment, agreeing wholeheartedly. His next comment made her laugh softly as she looked at him, "Well..Yes. You have an eternity to make your mark if you choose.."

"Yeah, that's true," Cain said, glanicing up at Meri. He really had no idea what it was about her, but he didn't want her to leave. At least not now. He had never felt this way about any of his crew. Perhaps it was that she was one of the few female crewman on the ship and it was just a natural thing that could be ignored. Perhaps, but he didn't know.

Meri was watching Cain as she seemed to do alot of lately, so she knew when he glanced her way. She liked his company and she loved being a part of the crew, spending time on the open sea. She loved everything about the Lucifuge, and was more and more captivated by the Captain each evening. But she thought she could ignore that, and survive without ever showing her interest in that regard. Meri was content to be useful and apart of the crew.
